Sculpted by Erick Sosa and released by Bowen Design in 2005, the Deadpool Statue is a piece always characterized by relevant prices on market, in spite of the rather wide edition size of
2500 pieces. The resounding success among collectors is due to the unquestionable sculptural quality, the great attention to detail, the excellent coloring and, in general, the really
top notch aesthetic impact. The figure (very faithful to Comics) exhibits a frontal pose with the typical red-black costume enriched by a splendid belt, many military
pouches, buckles on the chest and back, and a holster on the right side. Wilson grips two large automatic weapons with great naturalness and is armed to the teeth, with the classic
ninja-style swords crossed on shoulders, a pistol on the right side and a dagger on the left ankle. The physique is nothing short sculptural, with incredibly defined abdominals,
bulging pectorals and biceps, well delineated muscles of legs. The painting of the suit (where the use of a very bright red tone and a slightly glossy black enhances
the natural contrast of the colors) is excellent, as well as that of the many weapons, whose metallic semblance is made in a masterful way. In my opinion, however, the
strong point of this piece is the face! The sculpt is very well done, with numerous folds which outline the contours of nose, ears and mouth under the mask. Moreover, Sosa was able
to generate a mocking expression by just differentiating the size of the two eyes' sockets and enhancing the misalignment of the eyebrows arches, thus getting the character's
essential feature! Note the great care paid to details: the grooves and reliefs on the metal arms and the textures and shades on leatherette belt, pockets and
holster; the circular buckle with two small white circles (logo of the character) and the ties that bind the two swords behind the hero; the excellent sculpt on
hands (with the finger on the trigger) or the many folds delineating the costume on the lower abdomen. Also the base is nice and very well-done: elliptical in shape,
it shows the typical logo of the hero and is adorned with a myriad of cartridge cases of different sizes, a clear sign of a recent armed clash. I remember I had a sort of intuition by
recovering this piece through an ebay auction in Europe, at a very advantageous price, during a period in which, although I liked the sculpt and coloring of the piece, the character's
attractiveness on me was very poor and he did not belong to my priorities at all. And I also remember my astonishment and enthusiasm in discovering the high
quality and the incredible aesthetic impact of this statue. Simply a top-quality collectible!
